ENGIE Vianeo Wins Major Contract in Germany to Accelerate the Electrification of Road Freight Transport

Updated

Germany is taking a new step forward in decarbonising freight transport. ENGIE Vianeo has been selected by the German Federal Government and Autobahn GmbH to deploy a charging network for electric heavy-duty vehicles along the country’s main logistics corridors. This strategic award confirms the company’s position as a leading player in electric mobility in Europe and strengthens its presence on the German market.

A landmark project for European heavy-duty transport

As part of Germany’s national programme for the deployment of charging infrastructure for electric trucks, ENGIE Vianeo will be responsible for the design, construction and operation of 26 charging stations located along the country’s major motorway corridors. The project will include a total of 173 charging points including 105 Megawatt Charging System chargers capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW of power.

This infrastructure will form the largest megawatt charging network in the South-East lot of the German federal programme. It will address the growing needs of transport operators committed to electrifying their fleets by offering reduced charging times and maximising vehicle availability for long-distance journeys.

Germany, Europe’s logistics hub

Germany’s selection is particularly significant. Today, the country is one of Europe’s leading logistics hubs, with nearly one out of every two trucks operating on the continent travelling to or through Germany. At the same time, the electric truck market is experiencing rapid growth, with more than 4,000 electric trucks registered in Germany in 2025.

Investment in high-performance charging infrastructure is therefore a crucial lever for supporting this transformation of the sector. Through this new contract, ENGIE Vianeo will directly contribute to the development of a network capable of supporting large-scale zero-emission road freight transport.

Strengthening Three Strategic European Corridors

The future charging stations will be deployed along three major corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T):

  • Rhine-Danube;
  • Scandinavia-Mediterranean;
  • North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean.

These corridors play a central role in European economic exchanges. Their electrification will facilitate long-distance travel for electric trucks while contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions from road freight transport.

Megawatt Charging: A Key Driver of Freight Electrification

One of the project’s distinguishing features is the significant number of megawatt chargers that will be installed. With 105 MCS charging points, ENGIE Vianeo will deploy the largest volume of megawatt charging infrastructure within the German federal programme.

This technology is considered essential for the electrification of heavy-duty transport. Capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW of power, MCS chargers significantly reduce charging downtime and enable transport operators to maintain high levels of operational productivity.

Nicolas Cournu, CEO Europe of ENGIE Vianeo, stated:

“The electrification of road transport is one of the most powerful levers for decarbonisation in Europe. Securing this contract under the German federal programme for heavy-duty vehicle charging marks a major milestone for ENGIE Vianeo in building a high-performance European charging network.”

A New Milestone in ENGIE Vianeo’s European Expansion

Present in Germany since July 2025, ENGIE Vianeo continues its expansion by leveraging the expertise it has developed in France and Belgium. The company is notably behind the first fast-charging corridor dedicated to electric heavy-duty vehicles between Lyon and Paris, a benchmark project for decarbonised freight mobility.

This award is fully aligned with ENGIE Vianeo’s European growth strategy. By 2030, the company aims to rank among the top five European public charging infrastructure operators, with a network of 25,000 charging points, including 1,000 dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles.

The company already operates more than 11,000 charging points across Europe and is currently developing several strategic projects in Germany, including a truck charging hub at the Port of Kiel. The first site is scheduled to become operational in August 2026 and will contribute to the emergence of a sustainable port charging model at the European level.

ENGIE Vianeo Reinforces Its Role in Decarbonising European Transport

With this new contract, ENGIE Vianeo reaches a decisive milestone in its European development. By deploying one of Germany’s most powerful charging networks for heavy-duty vehicles, the company will help accelerate the adoption of electric trucks across the continent’s main logistics corridors.

Beyond the infrastructure itself, this project highlights the growing importance of megawatt charging solutions as a cornerstone of the energy transition in the road transport sector. It represents a major step forward in achieving Europe’s decarbonisation objectives and supporting the sustainable transformation of continental logistics.
